Learn from the Minister of Finance of Indonesia, Sri Mulyani

Sri Mulyani Indrawati was born in Bandar Lampung, on August 26, 1962. She is the first woman and Indonesian to serve as Managing Director of the World Bank. She has completed her education and earned a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Indonesia (1986). She continued her education at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, United States of America, and earned her Master’s degree of Science of Policy Economics (1990). After that, she earned her Ph.D. in Economics (1992).
2005 – 2007

On December 5, 2005, she was appointed as Minister of Finance. During her time as Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani Indrawati made many achievements, including stabilizing the macro economy, maintaining prudent fiscal policies, reducing borrowing costs, and managing debt as well as giving investors confidence. She led the reform of the Ministry of Finance well so that many fundamental changes occurred in the Ministry of Finance. She was named Asia’s best Finance Minister for 2006 by the Emerging Markets Forum on 18 September 2006 at the IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Singapore.
She was honed to be the best Minister of Finance for 2006 by Euromoney magazine.
She was also chosen as the 23rd most influential woman in the world by Forbes magazine in 2008 and the 2nd most influential woman in Indonesia by Globe Asia magazine in October 2007.
2008 – 2016

In 2008, she served as Acting Coordinating Minister for the Economy after the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Dr. Boediono was sworn in as Governor of Bank Indonesia. In 2009 the Indonesian economy grew by 4.5% at a time when many countries in the world were experiencing setbacks. Indonesia is one of three countries with economic growth above 4% in 2009 besides China and India.
Then on June 1, 2010, Sri Mulyani Indrawati became Managing Director of the World Bank. Sri Mulyani is also the spearhead of Indonesian diplomacy at the international level, especially in the G-20 forum and a number of other important forums.
On July 27, 2016, he was appointed by President Joko Widodo to become Minister of Finance again in the Working Cabinet.

2018

In February 2018, Sri Mulyani Indrawati was re-elected as “Best Minister in the World” at the World Government Summit in Dubai. Still in the same year in October 2018, Global Markets chose her to be “Finance Minister of the Year – East Asia Pacific”. The title was given during the IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Bali.
2019

In 2019, Sri Mulyani was again named the best finance minister in Asia Pacific by the financial magazine FinanceAsia. This award was received three years in a row after previously being obtained in 2017 and 2018.
In August 2019, she was elected as Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Islamic Economists for the 2019-2023 period.
On October 23, 2019, Sri Mulyani Indrawati was re-elected to serve as Minister of Finance in the second term of President Joko Widodo’s administration. This position is the fourth Minister of Finance position for Sri Mulyani in a different cabinet.

 

2020

In October 2020, Global Markets chose her to be the “Finance Minister of the Year – East Asia Pacific, in recognition of efforts to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia.
This is a small anecdote about Sri Mulyani. A female leader who has succeeded in setting a good example for the next generation. Let’s prove that we as the younger generation can make achievements in the future!
